Is Scott Brown Your Landlord?

Newly minted U.S. Senator Brown and his wife own three condo units on Comm Ave in Brighton, one of which is also owned by his daughter Ayla.  Hey, maybe we all could use some help with our credit scores at this point… paying off a mortgage wouldn’t hurt.

Brown can probably afford it.  In 2008, his reported income was $181,838: $82,549 in salary as a state Senator, $80,975 from his solo law practice, and $18,314 in salary from the National Guard.

From the Globe: the Brown family “owns a four- bedroom, Colonial-style home on a cul-de-sac in Wrentham, which values the property at $549,000; a six-room Cape-style second home they built a quarter- mile from the beach in Rye, N.H., assessed at $472,500; and a timeshare unit in Aruba worth between $10,000 and $20,000. In 2007, they bought three small, income-producing condominium units on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton, near Boston College, at a total cost of $489,000.

Commencement Speaker Options Other than Scott Brown

Sadly my fellow BC Law students, the likelihood of Scott Brown being our commencement speaker is pretty low. Clearly, I do not base this on anything Garvey has said. The man knows how to duck direct questions like a champ. I base this on the fact that Brown is going to be too busy playing basketball in the balmy D.C. spring weather, right after he finishes reconciling the books on his new business DateMyDaughters.com. As for John Kerry, not only would he be a repeat offender, but he presumably will be too busy playing golf on Nantucket by that point, so he’s out.

To throw Garvey a bone, I’ve taken to the streets to compile the people’s choice. Below are some suggestions from the more enlightened members of the Class of 2010 (and others I thought might be amusing. Turns out I was wrong).  At worst, this list shows just unfunny and uncreative you are by the time you’re a second semester 3L….This also might be the last time I go outside my weird little brain for content.

Brown '85 Elected to Senate

MA Now Represented by Double BC Law Contingent

In a vote of 52% to 47%, BC Law alum Scott Brown defeated Martha Coakley in yesterday’s special election.  Brown has now made Senate special elections something of a specialty, winning his current state Senate seat in a special election in March 2004.  Brown’s come from behind upset has national ramifications, although his status as the lone Republican in Congress from the commonwealth could make for awkward group plane trips to DC.

Although absentee ballots are unlikely to affect the election results, procedure dictates that Secretary of State Bill Galvin wait 10 days for their arrival before certifying the results.

Scott Brown '84 Announces Senate Bid

BCLS alum and former Cosmo model Scott Brown announced his candidacy for United States Senate last Friday, and immediately became the front-runner for the Republican nomination.  The Senate seat, previously held by the late Ted Kennedy, has attracted a number of contenders.  Brown had previously said he would not run against former White House chief of staff Andrew Card, and threw his hat in the ring shortly after Card decided not to run, throwing his support behind Brown.
