In so doing, she has aspired to help some of the most underrepresented individuals in American society navigate their way through a complicated, and often confusing, legal system.

Edited by David C. Brotherton and Philip Kretsedemas, Keeping Out the Other was published this earlier month by Columbia University Press in New York.

New Program Encourages, Recognizes Student Pro Bono Work

NEWTON, MA — BC Law recently instituted a program to encourage and recognize students for pro bono work during law school. The new Pro Bono Program encourages students to sign a pro bono pledge to do at least 50 hours of work during law school. Students then find a project or placement and complete public interest work on a pro bono basis. The program will recognize students for attaining three different levels of service, measured by the number of hours. Students who complete 100 hours of pro bono work will receive a letter from the Dean, recognition for Pro Bono Excellence at an awards ceremony during graduation weekend, and special recognition in the graduation program. Participants will also be recognized for work performed the previous year at a fall reception.
