We had to vote on our “superlatives” for the yearbook, and I was left with some existential questions, so I was hoping you could all help me out here.

Dear Agony Aunt, my friends and I are getting ready for interviews, and I feel like I’m getting mixed messages: people say to make a good impression, obviously, but also to wear something really boring. I don’t get it! If an interview is anything like a date, I’d expect my success to vary directly with the shininess of my tie. What do you think?
