Water

Apologies – a post on the area’s water emergency would probably have made more sense over the weekend.  You’ll have to forgive me, because I live in Cambridge and was blissfully unaware until this morning.  As I write this I’m enjoying a nice, tall glass of ice cold tap water.  Delicious.

For those of you who do not reside in the People’s Republic of Cambridge, you are probably among the approximately 2 million people without potable water because of a broken water pipe in Weston, MA.  Between 10am and 11am on Saturday, a metal collar protecting a large rubber gasket ruptured, causing an enormous water leak (up to 8 million gallons an hour were released at one point, mostly into the Charles River).  Authorities still do not know what caused the rupture, although an earthquake has been dismissed as a cause.

SELS Elections Meeting Weds

The Sports and Entertainment Law Society will be holding elections tomorrow, April 28th at 12:30pm in Stuart 409. Delicious pizza from Sweet Tomatoes will be served!

These will be very informal elections. It is not necessary to contact SELS in advance if you plan on running. All you need to do is show up (even bring friends to vote and eat pizza!) and if there is a position that is contested, say a few words about yourself and why you’re running.  These elections are a GREAT opportunity to take on a leadership role and be able to direct the organization in whatever way you feel will be most beneficial to BC Law.

Available positions are:

Scott Brown to Give Commencement Address

It’s official: Senator Scott Brown will be the speaker at this year’s Commencement ceremonies on May 28.  In an email to the student body, Dean Garvey announced that Brown ‘85 had accepted the school’s invitation to speak, referencing an official release the school would send out on Thursday.  Brown is also committed to speak at the commencement ceremonies at Nichols College in Dudley, MA.

Brown will be the third conservative Commencement speaker in a row, a trait that has not escaped students’ attention.  Said one 3L, “while Brown is definitely a legitimate speaker, it’s disappointing that for three years in a row, the commencement speaker will be right of center.  It would have been nice to have someone more moderate, someone more in touch with the student body’s political beliefs.”

Brown’s student experience at BCLS was somewhat unusual.

Get Some Software

Legend has it that through BC, you can do some pretty nifty things to a computer — if you bring it in.  Messing around with your operating system is an example, as the Help Desk can upgrade you to XP Professional or Vista Enterprise.  Still, there are a few things you can add to your computer from the comfort of your home, or use from your own laptop when on campus.
