Diversity Issues in Property Law – Free Indian Food
The 1L curriculum is drawn largely from the common law carried to the American colonies from England. Property, Torts, Contracts, and many elements of Civil Procedure have roots in rules developed by English courts. One consequence of this has been that much of American law is tied to historical periods during which political minorities—women, non-whites, and non-property holders—had very little power.
Vestiges of this misallocation of power remain visible in our casebooks, but the constraints of law school often force professors to spend little or no time on these important issues.
On Thursday, the LSA Diversity Committee is sponsoring a panel of BC Law Property professors to talk about diversity issues present in property law. The professors have also been encouraged to address the challenges of teaching these issues in class.
Join us at 12:45 in EW 200 for the discussion. Free Indian Food will be served.
